This beautiful Asia-inspired home needed a de-personalization.  Only a few surfaces contain art pieces, the rest are empty.  Artful staging helped lead to a quick sale.  After the sale, I was hired to pack the contents that were moved to storage, but that's another story...

The dramatic penthouse entrance showcases Buddha in a starring role. Beyond is the den. The foyer is illuminated by the classically stylish bar on the opposite wall as seen below.

So striking was the built-in bar, the full length mirrored doors were left open...

Just off the entry, the den was a casual place to eat, watch television or read a book.

This sophisticated entry is completely open to the double living room with its gallery-like wall space, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors hosting a view of Boston Back Bay.  You'll see both sides in the photos that follow.

This dramatic loft apartment in a historic antique mill was part of had an award-winning design renovation building.  It boasted an extra-long living room, 24 foot ceilings, 12 foot windows in each room and a galley kitchen.

 I deliniated the open floor plan with a sofa and throw rug mid-way defining the living room, dining area and kitchen.

This formal living room doubles as a music room behind the sofa.  We moved around a few pieces of furniture and removed all the clutter that had taken over.  You'll see the BEFORE photo below.

This is the first room you see upon entering this home.  It appears to have become a drop off point for baby gear, and stuff - kind of like a mud room.  Not the best first impression.  We started early in the morning and by the end of the day this living room was back to a comfortable and cozy space with a designated area for music as you see in the photo above.

The small office was a catch-all room for laundry supplies and projects. I created space for the laundry things just outside this room (not shown).  In the next photo you'll see a desk that is too big for the space sticking out into the room and a doorless walk through to the television room.  

Here's the desk sitting ackwardly into the room.  Since the two small rooms had their own access, I moved the desk in front of the doorway giving much more useable space to the office and access to the window. 

After moving the desk in front of the doorway, I found an inexpensive tapestry and hung it - separating the rooms and covering the open space. You'll see the effect in the AFTER photos.

When you walk into this room there is space and organization.

Now the office is more functional as a work space and the tapestry was a perfect fit for the doorway.

This is a small space jammed with all kinds of projects.  We reclaimed the space for family television time and moved the project things to the small office behind this room.  We switched the sofa and chair to close off the walk through between this room and the small office. Moved the tables around and I fixed the broken lamp.

By moving the love seat in front of the doorway and hanging a curtain we separated the small office from the television room.  Each room has separate access without the walk through.  

In the kitchen she just needed bar stools for the built-in island eating area.  With the great room being so big I suggested she buy two large throw rugs to soften the hard wood floor and define the areas.  

The original upholstery was tired and worn.  We kept the authentic feeling but with a modern twist in the new fabric and added six standard sleeping pillows for comfort and overnights.  The compartment located to the right of the doorway is a queen size sofa pull out bed, and located in the middle are two bunk beds one on each side.  All were reupholstered. 

The dining area upon entering the house was the dumping ground.  Not inviting for a delightful meal with family and friends.

The washer/dryer was taking up valuable space - leaving the refrigerator out in the middle of the kitchen.  We installed a stacking washer/dryer and replaced the old rusty fridge with a new one that fit next to the stackable.  You can see the results in the AFTER photos.  

This dresser was painted white and moved into the closet, leaving space for a king size bed.

The closet doors were removed and the dresser was painted and moved to the closet.  Curtains were hung where the doors were to soften the room and close off the closet.  The wooden shelving unit was painted yellow and moved to the dining room.

The twin beds were kept but moved to the wall across from the closet you see here.  The closet doors were removed and yellow curtains were hung. Another dresser was painted white and moved into the closet space.  

Yes! we kept this beautiful hand-painted wooden toy chest.  The curtains were replaced with simple window treatments.  The bentwood rocking chair on the right side was moved to the living room and the chest of drawers on the left side was painted white and placed in the closet, leaving room for the beds to be moved to this wall.

The owners purchased furniture which include a queen-size sleeper sofa, a love seat, a chair with ottoman, a coffee table, two side tables, bamboo floor covers and a new desk for the living room.  The desired feeling is beachy and relaxed, the color scheme throughout house will be yellow, red, green and white.

 The original table was kept and the chairs were painted.  A rattan shade was found in the attic replacing the green metal shade.  The large mirror was originally gold gilt and leaned against the wall -  it was hung and painted.  Now a delightful, clean and welcoming eating area for family and friends. No longer a storage place for bikes.

This photo taken from the front door as you enter the house.  The shelving unit was brought to this room and painted.  Now it holds books and beach treasures.

The newly arranged kitchen is a delight to work in now.  I took the old desk from the living room, painted it and placed it in the kitchen as an additional work space.  In the photo below you'll see the new full size stackable washer/dryer and a new full size refridgerator - I added some small shelves above the clothes hamper for storage and added curtains above the fridge and washer to soften and create a place to store the laundry detergent, etc.

The master bedroom is now a welcoming sleeping area in creamy whites and taupes.  A new king bed placed and bedside tables taken from the living room and painted.  A slipper chair and sissle rug added and another mirror from the house painted.  

You can see here the curtains that close off the closet.  The new artwork was provided by the owners.  A full length mirror was found in the garage and placed on the wall next to the closet.

Soft white window treatments were added, along with pull down back out shades.

This antique headboard was found in the attic.  I repurposed it as headboard art by adding the finials, painting it white and stenciling  a simple pattern.  

This room was made breezy, uncluttered and updated with new bedding and soft window treatments. 

The yellow curtains cover the closet which now holds a lovely chest of drawers.  The curtains created a soft accessible space for storage.

The chest of drawers was painted and I stenciled some butterflies on the small drawers.

This very active family needed some storage guidance...

Although I don't have before photos of the interior, take my word for it - it was a disorganized mess.  In starting everything was removed, organized and put back.

The gardening supplies were organized onto the shelves, a large piece of furniture that was to be donated was placed near the front for easy extraction, the bikes were hung from the ceiling creating more floor space and the collection of ski's were put together in one place.

These inadequate shelves were moved to Green closet along with all cleaning and bathroom supplies.

All the business supplies are organized and have easy access.

This small closet was under utilized...

A disorganized mess.

With the shelving from Orange this closet became useful for holding all the cleaning and bathroom supplies.

As with most storage rental spaces they are just big empty areas.  By adding some sturdy inexpensive shelving I created surfaces for lamps, albums, boxes of family memorabilia, seasonal clothing that are easily accessible.  All boxes are labeled and all clothing stored in large clear plastic bins.

A well used family storage unit that was impossible to find anything.  A time honored accumulation of college papers, albums, family photos, consolidated art, rugs and funiture inherited from grandparents. 

I took wall measurements and bought sturdy shelving to hold the organized boxes that were to come... 

Everything was unboxed, cleaned, re-boxed, and labeled.  The art was unboxed and photographed, re-boxed and the photo was taped to the outside.  The clothes were placed in clear plastic boxes and labeled.

A garage with two car bays and a full loft space above.  Eventually, when the contents are moved back to the main house the loft will become a music studio.

The loft space is the full size of the garage with two windows at the front and a french door at the back with balcony and a stair case to the lower level.  As you see there are somethings in the space, but this is a before photo.
